Tap size for 'chasing' head bolt holes in B230FT block? 900 1994

Getting ready to replace a head gasket on the 945T tomorrow, have been reading the FAQs and also doing exhaustive searches for the size of the head bolts (12mm) but am not sure what thread pitch they are. I'm asking because the FAQ says it's best to "chase" the holes in the block with a bottom tap to ensure the threads are perfect. Went to Sears to see if they have any bottom tapping bits, unfortunatly they don't...so I'll probably order from McMaster-Carr in the morning.

Does anyone know what the correct bottoming tap is to do this job? Do you do this when replacing a head gasket or is it unnecessary in your opinion?

Thanks,
Bean
