New alternator not charging 900

Replaced the original alternator on my ’93 940 (at 170K miles) with one rebuilt by Bosch in Germany (purchased from Groton FCP). Problem is I seem to be getting no output from the new one (just like the old one). Here are the symptoms:
- dash warning light fails to illuminate when ignition switched on
- doesn’t light when engine running either
- voltage across battery stays at 12V whether engine on or off – on all my Volvos voltage is at least 13V when engine first started
- amp meter connected between alternator (B+ terminal) and B+ lead reads zero
- the alternator ground wire and the battery cable connections are fine, and the alternator wiring looks good
- the starting circuit is fine – engine starts great

Haynes says to check warning light bulb and holder and D+ wire for continuity, but wouldn't that involve pulling the instrument cluster? Something I’d like to avoid.
Any suggestions? Could I have a faulty rebuilt alternator? Is there a simpler way to check the warning light circuit?

Thanks...
