Hello all,
After years of driving with a droopy headliner, I decided to get the Ipd kit to fix it. Other than the ridiculous cost - for which one receives 20 dollars worth of materials - it seems doable. As per their instructions, I removed the headliner fiberglass/carboard(?) shell. However, I managed to break it in the process. :(
Questions:
1) What is the best way to glue the shell together? The forward left 1/4 has completely broken off from the rest of it, as it was nearly impossible to remove out of a sedan's right front door, as IPD suggests one should. I was thinking epoxy - the kind used by hobbyists, but I don't know. Will the be adequate?
2) What are some tips for putting the thing back in? It was pretty much raped getting out, and I suspect putting it back in will result in some damage of the newly-covered shell. I figure completely removing the front seats will aid in installing this, but of course IPD just said to put the seats down, which was a woefully inadequate step.
3) In removing some of the plastic covers from the A pillar, I managed to break all four plastic pins that lock into the metal things. It seems to me these have grown brittle with age, as they broke as readily as dried bread. Epoxying them might be an option, but what is the best way of re-attaching the A-pillars safely and neatly to the body?
4) I am having some second thoughts about the sunroof removal. I have the Hayes manual and it does not go into enough detail for me to remove it and put it back intact. Can someone help me with this part? I am also concerned about the reinstallation process and all the adjustments that should be made afterwards. I really could use help on this step.
5) And last: I noticed the sunroof part had hoses which are supposed to drain water out of the car and not INTO it, as has been the case on very rainy days. I suspect my hoses are clogged: is this common? What is the best way of opening up the hoses to drain water safely out?
I'm sorry for the length of the post, but I am very excited about this project. To think that the interior will look as nice (or almost as nice) as it did on delivery is just awesome. I will appreciate any and all help. I may be reached at henry@cdluna.com if you cannot post (I tried to register but had some problems doing so).
Thanks in advance, fellow Volovers!
Henry
