No Start - Checking Rex/Regina System for Spark 900 1992

Talk about poor timing. Right before the Fourth of July my 1992 940GL refuses to start at all. Runs fine yesterday, but this morning first try it cranks fine but never fires. I can hear the fuel pump go on for about a second after I hit the key, and although I know I shouldn't depress the pedal, after doing so I smell fuel, so I suspect ignition. The car is equipped with the Rex/Regina systems. I think maybe Rex/Regina should be renamed, maybe to Crud/Crapina?

After having problems late last summer and earlier this year with it dying while underway and a hot restart problem, I replaced the fuel pump relay (the one inside the car behind the ashtray), the RPM or crank sensor, and the fuel injection relay mounted down near the battery. I understand that this last relay controls the injectors themselves.

There was no warning at all, no degraded running condition, nothing. Is there an easy way for one person to check spark? I looked at the FAQs and saw nothing obvious.

I throw myself on the mercy of the worldwide Volvo court of opinion. What is the most suspect? The power stage? Anything that may have failed more from age (13 model years) than mileage (just under 80,000)? Thanks for your help. Doug
