I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I returned to the junk yard today in an attempt to finish what I started the other day when I went looking for a newer compressor to put in my '80 245 DL that currently has in-op AC.
This time I was able to get most of the blots loose, but I still could not get it out. Seems to be attached somewhere in the back where I can't reach.
Also, I could not for the life of me get that Power steering pump to disconnect. I came just short of taking a hammer to the whole damn thing and smashing it to pieces! How exactly does that hose with the metal fitting disconnect?
After looking at the power steering system, I'm tempted to use my old rack if I can. With as much trouble as I've had pulling the stupid thing out of the junk yard car, I'm really hesitant to change anything more then I have to on the '80. I even read somewhere in the archives that the older power steering setup feels better then the newer one does as well… Can anyone expand on this?
And then we come to the mounting bracket for the newer compressor and steering pump. How many bolts hold it on to the block? It looked like there were 3, but are there some that aren't in an obvious place?
I'm more determined then ever to get the damn thing out of that car, but I'm obviously doing something wrong. Are there some special tools I need to do this properly or something?
The car I'm pulling this stuff out of is a '88 by the way, but there are tons of other cars in the yard with the same setup. I picked the '88 because it was the most recent drop off, and it looks like the AC worked before it was junked.
Thanks as always.
...I don't think I've ever made 3 threads within a week on the same topic!
