About a year ago a rattling noise started happening behind the rear seat when the car was going 50-52 MPH. The rattling was accentuated during hard right curves and during decelleration.
Under the original post someone observed that the noise might be exhaust related. I got under the car and shook and shimmied the exhaust from stem to stern without finding anything loose. I figured if it weren't the exhaust, then it must be the differential. I looked in the service manuals and noted that there are different wear surfaces in the differential depending on if the car is accellerating or decellerating. Voila, there must be a shim loose in there.
Finally the rattle started happening during idle after the car got out of tune enough. Yes, it was the exhaust all along. There is a hanger attached to the back of the drive shaft tunnel. The nut on top of the hanger rod was loose and squeaked at certain frequencies. That sucker is a bitch to get a wrench on but since tightening I no longer fear going 50 MPH.
