I read a Tom and Ray article in the 7/74 Rochester, NY D&C today that made me think that maybe I have been overinflating my tires.
Tom and Ray say that you should always use the recommneded tire pressures as printed on your car door (or glover box) plaquards.
I, on the other hand, have always looked on my tires and used the max pressure value printed there. My thinking was that max pressure would give max gas milage.
So in my case, my Michelin XH4 185 70R14 tires have a 35 PSI max rating. I pump em all 4 to 35 PSI cold.
However, my 1990 240 DL door plaquard recommends 28 PSI front and 30 PSI rear for an average of 3 passengers. It also recommends 36 PSI front and 36 PSI rear for 5 passengers.
I usually have from 1 to 3 passengers in my car.
So, should I be runing 35 PSI in all my tires or 28 PSI front and 30 PSI rear as my plaquard (and Tom and Ray) suggest?
Could I have been wrong all these years?
