Valve cover refinishing 140-160

Does anyone know what kind of finish was applied to the B20/B30 valve covers when the car was new? Mine looks like it had some kind of yellowish tint to it, but after 30 years it's hard to guess. It certainly does not look like an aluminum or galvanized finish. A follow-on question - suggestions on how to reapply this type of finish.
