my idle has a pulse 200 1983

i cant find a vacum leak,and the idle is not to terribly low(around 900 rpm)but as soon as it warms up it goes surge,surge,surge,surge,like a pulse with the rpm's just dropping slightly,but enough to be quite annoying.every once in a while it will just die.it will start rite up again,but you will be driving along and it just shuts itself off,this dieing does not corrospond with a dive in the rpm's.the harness has been replaced about a year ago and i have also replaced the two relays near the computer.i have noticed that the coil gets really hot.any suggestions?
