Temp compboard verses bypass kit? 200

I have a 88 244 m47 that has a dead temp guage. I had it working perfectly for a month then it has just stopped. I tried taking out the comp board and then putting it back in. That worked the first time and now nothing works. I guess it time for a new board, or bypass replacement. What should I do. I just wan't an acurate compensating board. Is there any draw back to the bypass kit?
Thanks and happy bricking. Oh and now, I can't seem to even get the big round plug unpluged from the back of the cluster. I gave up for now...any ideas.
