Car stalls shortly after starting 700 1987

Hello there,

My 87 760T seems to start fine, but if I dont rev the car up a few times after starting it before i put it into gear it will stall. Then i start it again and away it goes.

when i start the engine it seems to start fine but then drops down to about 600rpm for a short time before it comes back up. Idle also seems rough, well, the rpm's aren't really that constant at any engine speed when the car isn't in gear.

once the car is runing it seems to run pretty well. I find that it feels a bit rough when i'm accelerating lightly from a stop (as opposed to stopming ont he gas pedal).

Where is the gremlin?

just as a side note: how big a job is valve adjustment? I've never done it before. Will i need to buy new seals and whatnot after I do it? IT definetely needs to be done at some point.
