Hi!
I'm new to Brickboard, but so far I've read a lot of the great posts and noticed a lot of great information and help here and in FAQ.
I need some advice on replacing the rear brakes (pads) on my 1996 960. I want to start fixing stuff myself on the brick. I've never done it before but it seems pretty simple after an NTB employee told me all I need to do is unscrew two bolts.
He said the rotors look fine, but the car was probably designed so the rotors and pads be replaced at the same time.
1. Should I still replace the rotor even if it looks fine?
2. Should I:
---A) attempt to replace pads and rotors myself. There might be a couple of things I won't completely understand... I'm worried there is something simple I won't know about and won't notice. I'm hoping its a lot simpler then I think
---B) or have it done by a professional... VOLVO (expansive) or Midas? (any suggestions for places in Houston)
3. Does anyone have any suggestions about brake pad and rotor selection? i've heard only volvo pads fit in. Or can I get some from IPD or some other local place in houston?
4. I'm guessing if i do the job myself it'll cost about around 220. for two rotors, and two pads. an arm or leg if a pro does it, maybe 300-400?
5. Am I over complicating things?
Thanks in advance for any Help!
Al
