This is my first post and I arrived at this site out of frustration with two local service centers.
Our V-90 has 205K, has been mostly reliable and my plan is to let our daughter take it college-a long way from home.
Recently, I refuled an almost empty tank toward the end of a long highway trip. Within 10 minutes of returning to 70 MPH, I began to experience loss of power.
The car never stalled, but required pedel to metal to surge foward again. This happened repeatedly but we made it home without stalling.
I discussed my experience with several local guru's and agreed to run several injector treatments and dry gas through the fuel system.
Power losses continued to occur and I brought the car to the dealership.
Since the "check engine"light never actuated, the service dept. was unable to download a code from the cars computer and it was suggested I continue to drive the car until something tracable occurred.
I think I have narrowed the circumstanced of the problem to times when the car is very hot-high speed highway driving of 20-30 minutes and not during short local trips.
I tried another Volve service center in hopes that they had more insight. The service manager is great and thought it was the Mass Airflow Meter. He ordered the part and said he would take it back if it was not the source of the problem.
Next day another power loss.
After getting my original part back I decided to go up on the highway and drive until something happened. Eventually the "check engine" light did come on and coded for the O2 sensor.
I have an appointment for next week.
Question: Can the O2 sensor failure cause intermittant power losses?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your insight.
