Hot Start / Speedometer Issues 700

Greetings,

My '89 765T (B230FT) with 250,000 miles will not start in warm weather and after the car is at operating temp and then shut off.

From the 700/900 FAQ's, it would point to the Hall Sensor on the distributor. The other issue is that when the car does run, the speedometer will bounce around and give innacurate readings. Are the two related? Is the Hall Sensor involved with the speedometer accuracy?

I have no experience with removing a distributor and it's on the back of the head, near the firewall - looks like a PITB. Do I buy a rebuilt distributor for $170 and pop it in? Or is there something else I'm missing??

Thanks
