Flame trap cracks repeadedly 200 1993

I've been having a bit of wierd problem on my 240. I just put in the 4th flame trap in 6 months. The nipple on the flame trap keeps cracking off. This last time I could not believe that it was the flame trap causing a vacuum leak and took the car in to have it hooked up to a smoke machine. Sure enough it had cracked again.

I have been installing these things very gently with a little lithium grease to help the hose easily slide over.

Anybody else experience this bizzareness?
