No shifter indication on '96 960. should it be a light or what? 900

I don't have any kind of indicator on my shifter of my (new to me) 96 960 wagon. Can someone tell me what the indicator should be? Should there be a light under the window next to D,P,3, R, etc. or is it maybe a piece of orange plastic that should move in the window. I thought I'd ask before I tore open the shifter trim.
