'Ol Blue, my '88 745t has had a noisy compressor for the two years I've had it and it's worked fairly well. Not freezing like my 850, but cold enough to make a difference. It was converted to R134a a few years ago and I added a can this spring as it was blowing warm. That took care of it.
A couple of days ago we had our first taste of summer in Memphis and the temps were around 98 with the heat index at 107. The a/c was blowing hot but occasionally a cold blast would come out. Before I got home the turn signals and windows stopped working. Blown fuse, which also powers the a/c clutch.
Replacing the fuse and running it while looking under the hood I saw that the pully was free to turn but the clutch wasn't holding properly and slipping.
In the morning, at a relatively cool 70 degrees, it worked properly.
Does this sound like I have too much R134a in the system?
I'll need to take it in to have it checked as my Wal Mart a/c pencil gauge failed.
Thanks,
Erwin
