Body Welding and Air Bags 900

Hopefully it will clear, but I doubt it. I took my car in to get the door hinge welded, it was cracked. The car is going to be ready for pickup tomorrow afternnoon.
The manager dropped an OBTW bomb, the air bag light is on. They thought it might be due to the fact that the battery discharged because they didn't secure the door switch and didn't disconnect the battery.
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that at a minimum the battery should have been disconnected. I would think the welding would have really put quite a surge through the car and its electronics.
Am I correct in this assumption or is it coincidence the air bag light stays on now?

Thanks,
Greg
