voltage regulator? 200

Hi, im in the process of switching alternators and i have run into a snag. the alternator i am installing is a 70amp from a 7 series car(ive checked and it does fit on mine). It has the voltage regulator mounted right on the alt. Now tell me if im totally off but from what i can tell on the alt that is currently on the car it has a voltage regulator mounted seperate from the alt. where the voltage regulator should be(on alt) there are three wires that go to a small silver box just behind the passenger side headlight, from what i can tell from the wiring diagrams this is the voltage regulator on my car, am i right? if so can i just unplug it when installing my new alt.?

thanks

Jon
