extra wire on replacement aw71/72 700 1989

I recently replaced an aw71 with a newer one from the scrapyard. Thankfully all is well. The new transmission has an extra electrical connection (solenoid) which I just ignored at the time, but I've started to wonder am I missing some wonderful feature. Can anyone tell me what the extra wire is for. The transmission is from a 760 V6
