Can you hear Your Fuel pump? 700

i have an 89 740T with nearly 300K miles on it but i'm niticeing i can hear the fuel pump better when outside the car or the door is open.
i notice the sound in it seems to change as it's running it almost sounds like it's sucking air then not then sucking air with diff degrees of change.
also the engine seems to some times misfire when idleing and i'm pretty shure when driveing. (not bad but still) what do you think? what are your experences?
