Rattling engine 900 1995

All of a sudden when I start my engine and accelerate, my engine sound like a lawn mower.

I have changed the oil and it does not seem to be burning any unusual amounts.

When the engine is idle, it sound pretty much normal. After I accelerate it really gets a rattle until I take my foot off the gas and then it sounds normal again.

My car is due for a new exhaust. Could it be a hole that I haven't spotted and the noise is just more intense blowing through it, or could it be something worse?
