All,
Have an 84.5 245ti and have sourced an AC kit. The kit includes the dryer, expansion valve, compressor (Zexel), oil and adaptor nipples. This will run r134 of course. Here are my questions:
-The salesperson (kit advertised on ebay) was formerly an AC tech was pretty sure that I'd have to alter the ends of my hoses to fittings that go by the designation of #8 and #10.
Should I have completely new hoses made?
will the hoses be long enough?
Also how do I go about removing the hose that goes from the compressor and right into the firewall? Does it connect to the evap?
-When I had the system tested with R12 the tech's sniffer picked up R12 coming out of the vent so I should probably assume that the evaporator is bad. Can I use an evaporator from a junked '91-93? Is that a good idea? Will it fit in place of the evap I've currently got. Shall I pull a condensor unit too, are the -91-93 condensers much better?
-I plan to install the kit and other parts and take it to a shop and have them test the system and charge it.
Thanks for any guidance, finally looks like I'm on my way to actually having functional A/C!
Josh
