After the timing belt 900

Finished the T belt, all went well with that. Decided to change the oil, since I was in the area. Left the house to get oil. I had drained oil, already had a a filter. So i Buttoned everything up, but left the hood barely open. Get home and car is gone...wife decided to go about a mile down the road to see a freind. Can you say livid????? Would a short distance like this cause any harm? If so how will it manifest itself?
