O2 sensor question (960) 900

I want to replace the O2 sensor on my 94 960 when I have the car up in the air to do the timing belt this weekend. How many wires does the O2 sensor have on my 94 OBD1 960 have? 3 or 4? Also what is the difference between a 3 wire and a 4 wire?
Just wanted to know so I can buy the generic Bosch sensor as opposed to the $100+ Volvo unit.
