Camshaft Timing troubleshooting pointers needed. 700 1986

I've got a 740 Turbo wagon which recently fell victim to disastrous timing belt failure due to front seals being suicidal. Replaced the tensioner, belt, all three seals, the plastic backing plate, upper and lower covers (did I mention disastrous?) and my problem is this: the car starts every time and idles fairly smooth (180,000 miles+... used cluster precludes accuracy. That and the fact that the previous owner sold it to me from his back field... can't expect TOO much here) BUT... the throttle needs to be punched almost to the kickdown and the turbo has to be spooled up to keep up with traffic when I move from a stop. Acceleration is also abyssmal. Since the car seems to be limping along, I haven't checked to see how the cars upper end feels. The most it's seen so far is about 3500, Sluggish the whole way there. I can see that the belts teeth would account for around 8 to 10 degrees of difference and I'm not 100% on my indexing. The car ran fine, power wise, until the belt said "no more." I realize the best way to fix it would be trial and error, but I'd like to minimize my bleeding knuckles' suffering as much as possible. Should I go forward or back with it? Thanks! and Great Site!

P.S. BUY THE COUNTERHOLD #5284!!! BUY IT NOW!!! IT MADE SOOO MUCH DIFFERENCE!!!
I got mine express mail from RPR in Cali for $79.... I'm sure I got ripped on that part, but the service was worth it. I Also highly reccomend the three row brass radiator from RPR for ANY Volvo. -14deg F in the winter and 100+deg F in the summer in Missouri. Needle stays in the middle no matter what.
