I converted to power windows!--

I just converted my 1988 244Dl to power windows from a 1986 244 GL. I spent about four hours pulling the parts, including the wireing from the doner car. I then stored the parts for about a month until I got the courage to do it. I started by completly taking apart the interior of my brick. I removed the front seats, door panels, carpets, console, instruement cluster and felt stips under the dash. The car was looking fairly scary at this point. I took this as a great time to get out all of the soil in the creveous of areas such as the e-break. I then went to one door at a time and started removing the manual window regulators. Then came the time to install the power moter that was connected to its own regualator. I found that it was surprising simple to get them in the door and get all of the pines connected to the window rood. Only the last door gave me a difficult time getting every thing alligned. The most chaneging part of the whole job was to get the wires from inside the door to inside of the car I did this by taking off each rubber groument of the door and running the wires inside. On the drivers door I took the power door lock wire and speaker wire out before I fed the power window wires in because of their enoumous size. That was only neccesary on that door though. Wireing was quite simeple, since I had pulled everything from the doner car. Each moter had a plug for the switch to go into and a plug that went inside the car. The drivers door had about four different plugs that went in the door. Two went into the fuse box in the "power window relay" and the other in the "power window" The other two plugs that came in the door was one that went over the the passenger side with the relay for the system. This wire streched over to the passenger side to give it power. The other plug that came into the drivers side door sent power to the rear windows through a pig tail harness that ran to both rear doors. This was the bassic layout. I spent a coulple hours playing with the adjusment to get it just right. This project took me all day saturday and Sunday and then about a four hour combination between monday and tuesday. I spent a lot of time lubing and adjusting. Other's might be able to do it faster. This was one of the first projects of this magnitude that I have ever accompished. I was a little aprehensive as I stated, but now that it is done, I'm quite pleased that I did it. I would be willing to help answer any questions anyone had about this conversion. I did choose to use the door panels from another Volvo that had power windows. I could have cut mine to make them work, but I did not really want to do that. I had a great time doing it, and to me it was well worth it. Now since my "DL" has a sunroof, turbo wheels and powerwindows, I'm thinking about changing the bage to "GL" or "GLT" LOL.
