Oil Pressure Sender Wire Broke - Best Repair? 200

On my daughter's 86 the oil pressure sender wire broke off near the alternator where the wire disappears into the original harness. I don't want to disturb things any more than necessary. Should I slit the harness a couple inches and splice into the wire there, or run a new wire by a different route. If re-routing, where's the best place to tie in the other end of the wire? Any advice will be appreciated.
