faulty speed sensor? 200

my 1990 240 has a random starting problem...sometimes it will start hard - taking two or three attempts with the engine shaking about, and then at other times start perfectly...turn the key and go...today it wouldn't start at all so i lifted the hood and tweaked the impulse/speed sensor and it just started perfectly again...i had this sensor replaced just under a year ago...could the part be faulty?

last time it wouldn't start i had it towed to my mechanic, he couldn't get it to start but rechecked the speed sensor connection, said there had been some oil on it and it started fine again...now the problem's back...any suggestions...i'm taking it to a volvo dealer tomorrow
