fuel pump noise 700

Hi Everyone,

I've got an '89 740 16 valve. When I turn the key on, I can hear the main fuel pump run for a second. I replaced the pump about 2 months ago when the old one stopped working. My 240's both run their main pumps when I actually crank the engine over, so I was just wondering if the 740 should do the same thing. The 740 starts very easily.
