hard start - distributor? 200

my 90 240 randomly has a hard starting problem...sometimes it starts fine...other times it coughs and sputters and finally after 2-3 tries comes to life...a friend checked out the engine as i started it and saw a spark shoot from the distributor to the engine...should i replace the cap and rotor? i had a new cap and rotor installed just one year ago but they were not volvo parts...could this be the cause of this random hard start?

p.s. it gets worse in damp or wet weather...
