I have a 740T Auto (168K) with loosened turbo bolts- allowing a gap of maybe less than 1/32" (prob a 64th) between the mani and the turbo housing. I wanted to do the work myself, but have run into a lot of warnings about stud breakage probs. I have decent mechanical skills and am not afraid to undertake the job, but I am concerned about something going wrong, like a stud breaking, that would escalate into trips to a machine shop, downtime for the car, and time put in that I don't have to spare. BTW, I have found some of the ex mani nuts have loosened.
So I am considering taking the car to a mechanic I know who has plenty of Volvo exprience. Does anyone have an idea of what the rate for this repair would be?
And am I being overly concerned about potential problems? If so, should I get all the parts from Volvo?
Thanks
Rick
