Transmission Drip 900

My 94 '940 transmission is dripping. My mechanic changed the solenoid seals thinking that was it but it persists. His thinking is now that it could be the pan. Sounds like a general seal issue @ 122K miles. Are seal replacements a large project for the transmission?
