P1800 tach drive

I'm helping my Dad here who is restoring a 1962 P1800. It has one of the older style tachs with the forward mounted tach drive module. Has anyone ever figured out how this thing works, reverse engineered the circuit using modern components, seen a schematic of the device, or even taken one apart to see what it's made of? I know I can retrofit a 65-69 tach which would be a possibility but would like to make this one work if I could. Short of that, if anyone has one of these modules for sale, or a later model tach, I'd be interested.
