Cutting original springs lowering two inches 700 1988

I am going to cut my original springs on my 740turbo, about a coil and a half or two inches, because it looks so much nicer, and I cant afford new springs at the moment.I would like to hear from any one who has done this or any one who could give me any info on doing this, and any affects that it may have thank you.
