I'm brand new to the world of Volvo. Recently I purchased an '85 240GL wagon with 162K, 4-speed w/elec OD, no turbo. So far i'm very pleased with my $275.00 purchase.
My question is about the fuel pump that resides next to the fuel filter. Whenever the engine is running I hear the pump buzzing at a constant rate, e.g. no fluxuation that I can notice. Does this indicate a pump problem and a need to replace it?
She's a strong runner with no acceleration or cruising speed problems.
Is there a way to test the pump?
i'm getting a leaky steering rack replaced by my trusted mechanic in the next week or so... should I have the pump replaced while it's up on the rack? He's going to replace the fuel filter that day, anyway.
Thanks for any input.

1 more question: I live in Central WI. and am thinking that a block heater might not be a bad idea for winter starting. Is this a nightmare install?
Again, Many thanks.
