for those of you following the story- I got my volvo back from my mechanic who had towed it 3 hours away. here is what he sent me when I asked him for the diagnosis. I took a picture- it looks like there are some belts and maybe a part missing. I don't know much about cars, but I'm ready to start learning. it it worth it to fix this car? who makes the best manual? there is some rust- but not too bad (I'd put up another pic but I don't know how). I replaced the battery- and it will start up, but after a couple seconds will cough-out like its going to die, but if I keep the gas down it will rev up again, and then sputter out again, etc. the power steering doesn't worked- I guess its connected to the A/c? anyway- tell me what you think/where I can find help. the plan is to sell it when I'm done. will this be economical? thanks
Letter from mechanic:
As I mentioned on the phone I didn't make a formal
estimate. Once the costs exceed the value of the vehicle
it doesen't make sence for me to spend money on my forms
or my time! Be that as it may , I'll try and describe to you
what I roughed out on a preliminary form .
Power steering is driven through the A/C pully and
compressor ! The bearing and compressor shaft seized..
List out around $770.. I had one in stock OME I put down for $597
The exhaust sys. parts ended up at new $836 used $350
The fuel injection sys new $420 used $150
luke as I previously stated that's whereI stoped with my time !
there's electrical issues as in rotted wiring under the front crank pully
and no indicator lights on dash, the battery is shot as well as the alternator.
I didn't take a harder look and I suggest you do prior to getting started
on any project. Look at brakes, suspention , bushings, body rust, floor pans,
drive line , oil leaks. Make your own call !
