Brake Light Problem in 1987 240DL 200

I have seen a similar problem described in this forum's archive but have not located a helpful reply.

My brake lights work normally when the headlights are off, but when the headlights are on, the brake lights mounted in the taillight assemblies stay on all the time. The brake light mounted in the rear window works properly under all conditions. I replaced the taillight assemblies, including the circuit boards, about two years ago, and I am sure they were working correctly after replacement.

Any suggestions?
