I'm not able to get the screws in my alternator brush piece out, so I'm not able to check the brush length. I want to be sure the brushes will be good until the 120,000 mile service. If they are "risky", I will have them replaced before that.
What's prompting the question is that the brushes in my 1990 240 went out last week and temporarily stranded my wife -- stranded, that is, until my other 240 came to her rescue: did a couple of "jumper charges" on the injured 240 along the way over to the mechanic and made it just fine (the injured 240 was purchased used with 216,000 mile on it and I don't know when the brushes might have been changed in it.)
The car I'm wondering about is a 1993 245 with 104,000 miles on it. Anybody have any thoughts on the subject? Thanks in advance to all.
