940 keeps eating alternator belts. 900

I've replaced 3 alternator belts in the past 6 months, and the one I just put on about 2 weeks ago is about to go. On this particular one a "v-ribbed" belt. There's lots of ribs missing. Granted this is a cheap Strauss auto belt, which resembles a shoelace more than an alternator belt but this is rediculous. The first belt that failed was a nice fat "rolounds" non ribbed belt. The pulleys dont look mis-aligned, I've replaced the alternator bushings after the first belt failed thinking that may have been the problem but apparently it's not. Why would this keep happening?
