A/C Clutch Coil - 1996 960 Wagon 900 1996

I am having a problem with fuse #16 (15A) "A/C Compressor Clutch" blowing. We took the wagon to a repair shop to troubleshoot the A/C problem. Prior to taking it in the shop I believe that I checked these fuses and they all were ok. Anyways, the shop said they found the problem to be a "wire" behind the dash and charged us over $300! After we brought the car home, the system worked ok for a week or so and then we had no A/C again. We took it back to the shop (suspected crooks) and they said the fuse blew. When we picked the car up the A/C didn't work. The shop said they replaced the fuse and I noticed they put a 20A fuse in. Tonight I checked and the 20A fuse was blown. How can I check to see if it is the clutch coil? If the clutch coil failed, what am I looking at to in $ and how can I find instructions to replace the coil. As a novice mechanic, I don't really know much about pulling clutches etc.... am I screwed? I'd hate to take it to another shop and get royally screwed again.
