Brighter license plate lights- Any ideas on how? 200 1980

This is a post regarding my '80 245 DL.

Having just been pulled over fairly recently (again...) for my rear tag lights being out (when in fact the lights worked just fine), I would like to come up with a way to make the back end of my wagon so bright that you could be blinded by looking directly at it with out sunglasses!

(Okay, maybe not quite so over the top, but you get the idea.)

The 2 lights in the back of the wagon that are designed to do this work, but they aren't really bright. The white plastic is pretty clean as well, the bulbs just aren't very bright.

I'm ready to try any crazy idea.

I was thinking about even soldering some bright LEDs in place of the current bulb connectors, but I'm not sure how well that would work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks as always.
