has anyone retrofitted on-board diagnostics to an older brick? 700 1988

Gang, I'm tired of second-guessing all of my brand new fuel-injection components. Has anyone out there retrofitted the post-88 on-board diagnostics system to an earlier brick?

My guess is that this would involve more than just an ECU swap... also going to a crank RPM sensor and maybe a couple other things...

thoughts?
