I've decided to trade my '94 960 sedan (160k) in for a 940 wagon so I can haul my daughter's harp. While I'm familiar with the 960, having owned one and having read this board for the past four years or so, I don't know much about the 940 series. In particular, I don't know the differences between the 940, 940GL, 940GLE, and the 940SE. This car will be the wifemobile, so I can't go turbo (she'll never sit in the car at the end of a trip to the grocery store to allow the turbo to cool down).
I'd like to hear any advice about how I should proceed and what I should look for to get out of the 960 and into a 945. Is it better to trade with a dealer and take the financial hit (but get a warranty, save on sales tax, and have less hassle in general), or sell mine to an individual and pay cash (more hassle, plus I have to pay sales tax on the entire purchase price instead of only the difference in purchase and trade-in value)? And what is considered "high miles" on the 940 engine?
Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.
