My cousin from Germany borrowed my 1988 245 and has a starting problem:
"The car has big problems starting when it's cold. It does start only after one turns the key (and hold it) and pumps the gas pedal quickly for a while. It all makes a terrible sound. Once started, it runs perfectly fine. We are afraid that both battery and starter may get damaged with this starting "procedure". Could you think of a reason for this starting problems? Your advice is much appreciated!"
I realize "pumping" the gas has no effect, but she is used to her carburated VW beetle. She is not mechanically inclined, as you can tell, and I haven't the foggiest clue what a terrible noise is. I only wish she wasn't south of St Louis, a long drive from here.
I am looking for hints, thank you,
Klaus
