Fuel Pump Noise Question 200 1983

On the 83 model, the fuel filter is next to the fuel pump on a mount near the rear wheel (driver's side). I changed the fuel filter and now the pump is noticeably noisier. I think that perhaps when I reinstalled the filter, it was rotated such that the fuel feed line from the pump to the filter is in a bit of a kink. Could that cause the pump to work harder and hence make it noisier?
