Recently replaced my engine / tranny mounts with ones purchased from Groton (i.e. German? OEM # 1378657). The oil pan appeared to be getting close to the cross member (less than a 1/4 inch). Plus there was noticable signs of cross member rubber contacting the oil pan. I figured it was time.

After about 1 week, I am finding that when I brake, there is alot of movement in the shifter. This is especially noticeable when I brake hard. The shifter seems to move around more than before. Also I can rock the engine around more easily just by pushing on the valve cover left or right. Double checked all mount bolts / tranny mount and everything is OK.

I have reviewed the archives and cannot find much about my situation - the shifter moving during braking? I also read Chris Herbst post about how soft the German mounts are. See http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=553542 .

The car is running very well otherwise. With the new mounts I can really notice a difference in how smooth the engine is especially at highway speeds. but I am concerned about something else breaking considering how much movement there is with the shifter when in "D".

Is there anything to be concerned about? Will this do any damage to the engine / transmission / driveline / shifter linkages? Are the mounts defective?
