Pulled the right rear axle while looking for the cause of a noise i have. It is a knock sound that seems to come with each rotation of the RR tire(as if something were in the drum falling down from the top to the bottom with every rotaion). Everything looks fine in the drum and the sound occurs even at high speed when items would no lomger be falling.
This noise occurs when the car is coasting only. It does not occur when you are accelerating. You can not duplicate this sound on a lift it needs the weight of the car to happen. The sound stops when making left turns.
So anyway, pulled of the RR axle to look at the bearings, even though it not the sound i would expect to hear from a bad bearing. Pulled the axle out and realized "gee i don't even know what is supposed to look like in here". What is it supposed to look like in there? How much fluid? The bearing was covered and the axle was wet, but no great amount of fluid flowed out. Should it have? Anyway seems like 3 of the rollers on the bearing (all next to one another) did not spin nearly as smooth as the others.
Can anybody give me an idea of what the noise may be and what i should have found when i pulled the axle.
