haunted blower 200

A while back my blower motor in my ’89 244 started to squeel. Very subtly at first, but quickly became a constant annoyance. I say constant because I found that even with the switch in the off position, it still turned a little and still made noise. I found that odd, but put it down to a bad resistor pack or something. So I pulled the fuse just to end that noise so I could think! That was a few weeks ago.

Now that I can think, I know that I will have to tunnel to hell before it gets cold enough here in Minnesota for me to need the defroster. Then maybe I will really be a real Brickboarder.

But here is the mystery. I played with the switch today for no good reason and left it set on off. (Don’t know where it was before). Later, the fan starts going intermittently all by itself. Not fast, but enough to make that squeel, and only when the switch is in the off position. No, it isn’t air movement turning the fan because it happens when the car is sitting still. Ground speed and recirc button have no effect.

So, how in the heck is the blower getting juice with the fuse out ? If you know that, is there anything I should do about it while I have half my car apart ?
