AC Variable Orifice Valve (VOV) installation 700 1987

Tonight I installed a VOV(Variable Orifice Valve) in the AC system on my car, and re-charged the AC system with 38 ounces of R134a. My car was converted to R134a about six years ago, with a fixed R134a orifice. It was 83ºF here tonight, and the vent temperature was 36ºF at idle with the VOV. Although 83ºF is not particularly hot, the engine idles at about 900 RPM with the AC throttle kicker working. That is about a 10ºF drop in vent temperature! The VOV cost just under $25 US, and the R134a cost about $15 US.

The VOV is a worthwhile installation.
